Electrification and e-mobility are driving forward global research and investments within the whole automotive industry. Power traction systems equipped with electrical motors are already mass produced and new solutions are investigated. Within the farme of ReFReeDrive project, Motor Design Ltd. has recently published a study on ideas for improving existing topologies by using hairpin winding technology or optimized cooling system. This study was published by the IEEE Transactions on Industry applications.

Based on existing specifications for battery electrical vehicles, plug in hybrid vehicles and mild hybrid vehicles, and considering induction motors, interior permanent magnet and synchronous wound field motors, the article shows simulated results with recommendations and suggestions for better performance systems.
