Last October ReFreeDrive partners University of L’Aquila and Motor Design Ltd took part  in IECON’2019 conference (IEEE 45th Annual Conference of the Industrial Electronics Society), which was held in Lisbon, Portugal. Two papers were presented to the conference, both of them dealing with the design optimization of a 200kW copper rotor-induction motor for traction applications in premium vehicles.

In the papers, different optimization approaches and goals are presented. In the paper “Optimisation of a high speed copper rotor induction motor for a traction application”, it is explained how Motor-CAD® and OptiSLang® software are employed in order to develop an optimization method considering efficiency calculations according to WLTP3 drive cycle requirements. For its part, the paper “Finite elements model co-simulation of an induction motor drive for traction application” presents the results obtained by the finite elements model co-simulation technique in the transient analysis of a high power electric drive, involving the ANSYS/Simplorer® and MATLAB/Simulink® environments to correctly predict the voltage limit operation of the machine at steady state.
