The 45th Annual Conference of the Industrial Electronics Society (IECON’2019) was held last October 14th-17th in Lisbon (Portugal). IECON focuses on contemporary industry topics ranging from electronics, controls, manufacturing, to communications and computational intelligence. This forum allows industry experts, researchers and academics to share ideas and experiences surrounding frontier technologies, breakthrough and innovative solutions and applications.
To enhance the technical program and focus on specific topics and areas, a wide range of complementary activities for professional development were foreseen, supporting specific discussions among participants, with emphasis on industry-academia interactions. In this sense, Motor Design Ltd. and University of L’Aquila, partners of ReFreeDrive, co-organized on Wednesday 16th a Special Section titled “Electrical machines for e-mobility with reduced rare-earth materials”, where the following topics were addressed:

    – Synchronous motors with reduced rare-earth materials
    – Induction motors for Electric Vehicles
    – Mechanical analysis of high speed motors for Electric Vehicles
    – Cooling technologies
    – Modelling and control strategies
