Last May ReFreeDrive partners University of L’Aquila and Motor Design Ltd participated in IEMDC’2019 conference (IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference), which was held in San Diego (CA, USA). As part of their contribution to the conference a conference paper was submitted, that deals with the design of rare earth-free high-speed synchronous reluctance motors for electric vehicle applications. The paper presents the methodology and results of a design procedure applied to the rotor radial ribs, which allows optimizing their placement and sizing, in order to preserve the performance of the motor at high operating speed while enhancing the mechanical integrity of the rotor.
